Tesla lists up to 584 km of EPA range for Model 3 Premium in Canada as orders remain closed

Tesla lists up to 584 km of range for Model 3 Premium in Canada

Tesla has updated its Canadian Model 3 Premium website, listing a claimed EPA range of up to 584 km for the rear-wheel-drive version. According to Electrek, the new specifications suggest that US-built cars could be returning to Canada.

Model 3 comparison table still shows the previous specifications

Tesla’s Canadian comparison table still lists a range of 463 km and a 0–100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds for the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 Premium. Those figures apply to the Shanghai-built version. The updated specifications section lists a 0–100 km/h time of 5.2 seconds and a weight of 1,745 kg.

The new specifications match the version produced at the Fremont factory. On its US website, Tesla lists an EPA range of 363 miles and a 0–60 mph time of 4.9 seconds for that version.

In October 2024, Tesla offered the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 Long Range in Canada starting at C$54,990, with eligibility for the federal iZEV rebate. The company has not announced the return of the US-built version to the Canadian market, and the configurator remains unchanged.

Quotas halt orders for Shanghai-built Model 3

Canadian buyers have been unable to order the Shanghai-built rear-wheel-drive Model 3 since early October. Tesla’s website says orders will reopen when the Canadian government grants an additional import quota, which is expected in March 2027.

As of October 9, the federal counter showed 33,069 unused import permits for the relevant period. US-built cars may qualify for the program under the North American trade agreement, whereas Chinese-built cars do not. Shipments from Fremont are seen as a possible way around the restrictions on Chinese cars.

25% tariff threatens to raise the price of US-built Model 3

According to information from Canada’s Department of Finance cited by Electrek, a 25% countervailing tariff remains in effect on US-built cars. The article’s author estimates a potential Canadian price of C$65,000–67,000 for the Fremont-built rear-wheel-drive Model 3. Tesla has not announced that price. That level would exceed the C$50,000 threshold for Canada’s electric vehicle rebate program.

After the tariffs were introduced, the company raised the Canadian price of the all-wheel-drive Model 3 Long Range by C$11,000 to C$79,990. The rear-wheel-drive version, priced at C$55,990, was withdrawn from sale at that time.

In March, the company shipped its remaining US-built Model 3 cars out of Canada before switching to supplies from Shanghai. In May, that switch allowed it to offer the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 Premium at a record-low C$39,490.

The quota for that version was exhausted in about four months. The Model 3 Performance is currently the only version available to order in Canada; the company cut its price to C$74,990 in May.
