GM does not confirm plans to expand Corvette lineup with an SUV and an EV
GM has dropped plans to expand Corvette lineup, reports say
According to Car and Driver, citing a report by GM Authority and its sources within the company, GM has abandoned a proposed expansion of the Corvette lineup. The automaker had not officially confirmed plans to launch additional models under the brand.
A Corvette SUV is no longer in the plans, the report says. It had been considered a potential Porsche Cayenne rival. There are also no plans to use GM's future electric vehicle platforms for Corvette models. A four-door version, discussed as a possible fastback, is now considered unlikely.
Responding to an inquiry from the publication, Chevrolet representatives said they had nothing to add to the speculation. The company previously unveiled the California Corvette concept, which the publication sees as a preview of future Corvette models.
The report concerns fully electric Corvettes but does not indicate that hybrids in the current C8 generation have been canceled. Chevrolet already offers 2 hybrid powertrains for it. In its description of the current lineup, the publication lists the Stingray, Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR1.
The Corvette's range of powertrains could still expand. Rumors are already circulating about the next-generation C9, which will replace the current C8.
