New Honda Avancier teased with Hybrid badge and 0-Series styling cues
Honda teases new Avancier with styling cues from the canceled 0-Series
Honda’s divisions in Japan and Australia released a teaser for the new Avancier crossover on Friday. According to Road & Track, the model is believed to be aimed primarily at those two markets, with styling reminiscent of the canceled 0-Series crossover.
Honda scrapped plans to launch its 0-Series electric vehicles, which were to be the first to feature the brand’s new design language. But the company has not abandoned that styling direction: in May, it unveiled a hybrid sedan concept in the same vein. The publication also draws comparisons between that concept and the Avancier shown in the teaser.
Honda previously used the Avancier name for a station wagon sold in Japan around the turn of the millennium. The name was later given to a Chinese-built crossover for the Chinese market. The publication views the new model as a crossover for other markets, occupying a position in the lineup comparable to that of the CR-V or Passport in the U.S.
The vehicle wears a Honda Hybrid badge. The publication suggests the Avancier will be among the brand’s first models to receive its next-generation gasoline-electric powertrain.
An American Honda spokesperson confirmed that the new Avancier will not be sold in the U.S. However, the publication suggests its styling and the way its hybrid system operates could offer a glimpse of what is coming to the next CR-V for the U.S. market. Honda is fast-tracking that model’s development, so for U.S. buyers, the teaser is chiefly of interest as a possible preview of that vehicle.
