Yangwang reveals features of its Altior electric limousine
According to Autocar, BYD-owned Yangwang is positioning the Altior electric limousine as a rival to the Rolls-Royce Phantom. It measures 5.6 metres long, has a 3500 mm wheelbase and seats 4.
Yangwang Altior’s four-seat cabin features massage seats and a screen
The Altior is 400 mm longer than the long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class. It will sit above the U7 saloon, U8 SUV and U9 hypercar in the Yangwang range. The new model’s name is Latin for “higher”.
Yangwang claims 1209 mm of legroom for rear passengers. The airline-style seats offer a “zero-gravity” position and a massage function, and recline fully in Relaxation mode. At the same time, the car automatically closes the blinds, dims the lighting and raises the leg rests.
A 21.4-inch screen folds down from the ceiling for entertainment and conference calls. Autocar compares the feature with the equipment in the BMW i7. There are 2 refrigerators, one in the front of the cabin and one in the rear.
A touchscreen spans the full width of the dashboard, but Yangwang has retained plenty of physical buttons and switches. During development, specialists tapped them with small hammers to fine-tune their sound and tactile feedback.
The brand promises extensive personalisation options and says the car’s design draws on Chinese aesthetic traditions. The air vents are trimmed with jade, while the seats are embellished using a traditional silk-thread-splitting technique.
The decorative front grille’s visible pattern changes with the lighting. The headlights contain 12 independently rotating elements that perform a lighting sequence as the owner approaches. The rear doors are rear-hinged, as on the Phantom, and house umbrellas with individual patterns.
Four electric motors will allow the Altior to turn on the spot
The Altior uses an architecture shared with other Yangwang models. An electric powertrain with 4 motors has been announced for the limousine, and its ability to turn on the spot has already been confirmed.
The DiSus active suspension monitors the road ahead, preparing the car for bumps and changes in terrain.
Yangwang promises a range of more than 621 miles on a single charge under China’s CLTC test cycle. Full technical specifications have yet to be confirmed.
BYD vice-president Stella Li previously said that Yangwang was preparing to enter the European market in 2028. The Altior has not yet been confirmed for the brand’s European line-up.
