Volkswagen to offer full-hybrid Golf in the UK
Volkswagen adds a full hybrid to the eighth-generation Golf range
The Golf Hybrid uses a series-parallel powertrain. The petrol engine can drive a generator or power the wheels directly. With enough charge in the battery, the car can run on electric power alone; it does not need to be plugged in.
In the UK, the Golf Hybrid will be offered with outputs of 134 and 168 bhp. Auto Express tested the more powerful version in R-Line trim, which uses less fuel than the equivalent eTSI. The testers found the car well engineered and good to drive, but not a particularly necessary or memorable addition to the ageing Golf range.
Auto Express believes the Golf Hybrid will target company fleets. Potential buyers include people whose homes cannot accommodate a wallbox charger for a plug-in hybrid.
