electrive reviews electric AMG GT 4-Door and GT SUV in first test drive

electrive оценило электрические AMG GT 4-Door и GT SUV в первом тест-драйве

Publication electrive has tested the electric AMG GT 4-Door and GT SUV. The new models are aimed in part at drivers who dislike electric cars — precisely the audience the head of the model range identified when describing the electric AMG.

GT 4-Door combines sharp acceleration with a relaxed ride

The GT 63 version of the electric AMG GT 4-Door can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds using launch control, beating even the AMG One. To launch the car this way, the driver presses the brake and accelerator simultaneously, then releases the brake. The car comes with up to three electric motors.

In Comfort mode, the GT is quiet and relaxed — the reviewer compares its behaviour to that of an S-Class. In his assessment, the chassis, steering, brakes and powertrain work together seamlessly.

Electric AMGs simulate V8 sound and vibrations

The electric AMGs play sound recorded from the latest GT Black Series through their speakers, while vibration actuators in the seats mimic the vibrations of a V8. The system also features simulated gear changes with a rev limiter — an approach already found in other sporty electric cars.

The simulation stirs emotions but, in his view, cannot replace the mechanical character of a real engine. He is more forgiving of the same system in the GT SUV, as expectations of an SUV are different.

AMG.EA platform promises sustained power and fast charging

The 800-volt battery uses slim cylindrical cells, each cooled individually. This design is intended to allow sustained output of more than 500 kW, even when other electric cars are already limiting power to protect their batteries.

The GT 4-Door is claimed to be able to add up to 462 km of range in 10 minutes of charging under optimal conditions. The GT 53 produces 400 kW. The GT 55 delivers up to 600 kW and has a claimed WLTP range of 700 km.

AMG GT SUV offers up to 1,740 litres of boot space

The AMG GT SUV comes with air suspension. He considers the SUV more practical: its boot holds between 607 and 1,740 litres, compared with 415 litres in the four-door model.

The GT 53 version of the SUV has two electric motors, while the GT 55 has three. The version with the larger battery is claimed to support charging at up to 710 kW at a suitable station. The SUV is due to follow the four-door coupé in spring 2027.
